Embracing our differences Competition

I came across a Creative Competition online which I loved as its theme is Embracing differences which is what I wanted to work on this year after my summer experience. I am love creating things that will make a better difference in the world.

The competition is asking for a piece of art that is inspired by the theme 'Enriching lives through diversity'. If you win you work is featured in an billboard exhibition and you could win 1000 dollars. The competition is American but anyone can enter. The deadline is January 9th therefore it is a brief I would like to start straight away.

                    Research
Looking Back at Embracing our Differences they have held this competition for many years, I feel although their is a lot of creative freedom in this brief I should go back and look at what winners from the past themes were. You can see the artists are many ages and come from many different places. Common themes are Racism, Bullying, Poverty, Diversity and all are trying to portray a positive message. There are many different platforms used to create the artworks.

Since at summer I spent time living with disabled people I want to create something that is dedicated to showing that people with disabilities should be embraced for their differences and not set back.
My initial ideas for the project is to create a playful and lighthearted  illustration style piece as I don't think that something more hard hitting would work well with this exhibition as looking at past winners they are all more fun pieces that seem to be aimed more at a younger audience.

I want to play around with using fingerprint. Finger prints to me resembles a persons identity, every single person in the world has a different fingerprint which makes a person unique. I want to mix fingerprints and line drawings to show peoples unique looks and celebrate that.
