In conversation with my target audience,

Since I am aiming my project at children I wanted to talk to some about what they already know about disabilities. I have noted parts of my conversations that I felt most important.

9 Year old Boy

• Being disabled means you can park in a disabled space
• you are in a wheelchair

11 Year old girl

• Someone who isn't well who finds it harder to do things

14 year old girl

• I think disability is a mental or physical condition where it stands in the way of day to day life. I know that dyslexia, autism and dementia are disabilities. Disabilities are not commonly brought up in any subjects at school but I feel I can talk to some teachers about it id I had any questions. Other than that there is hardly any mention about disabilities.

By doing this type of research I can see what information children need to know about disability and what type of tone of voice the medical type information should be in making it easy for them to understand and learn from.

I found that the children I talked to had never really learnt much about it at school and the ones with the knowledge were the ones who knew someone personally who have a disability.
