Grids

Today I looked at Grids and how publications such as The Guardian layout their content using a grid system. I took a piece of the guardian and some tracing paper and drew out where I think the grids are. The page had columns and was designed with a hang line. This provides a clear structure to the content and stops there from being an uneven rag. The text in the columns is also flushed to the left so that the text is easy to read as we naturally read from left to right. Having a large horizontal section at the top is important in a newspaper to have the article heading large to attract the readers attention. Having well structured columns are also important to have the clear information. This layout and grid can work in multiple ways when adding images into the column space and is clear and easy to read.
