Typesetting - Takeaway Menu.

Today I had a lecture on typesetting and we were given a task to select a takeaway menu and analyse it then retype its content. I choose this Menu because some of the text is not legible because of the background colour and the choice of the text colour. There are also too many type sizes which can make the text confusing and look unpleasing to the eye (specially inside of the circles). There is a consistent colour scheme except for the green and blue circles which is what draws the eye and distracts you from other information. Some of the description parts of text have a widow were the is a really long line and then one word that wouldn't fit on the next line.
The purpose of a takeaway menu is to share information and pursuade people to order. I think that the menu should be easy to understand because people will not want to order if it is difficult to understand. Also there should not be to much information, simplistic designs are better. I am also put off by to much colour. I like a consistent colour scheme.
I re-designed a small section of the menu using a smaller colour palette and only three sizes of text. I also made all of the type flush left so it is easy to read and made the symbols black so that it was easy to read. I also kept the background colour white which looks clean and simple. I made the font Helvetica as it is simple and legible. I also paid attention to the leading making sure the pizzas name stood out without making them to big.
