What already exists?

Before starting I need to find out what education is already out there for children on disability so I do not just recreate something that has already been done but enhance it and join them at wanting to make a difference.

Scope is a UK charity there for disabled people. They also help at educating the public on disability. There main aims is for equality and having a better society. They encourage young people to help them campaign and give advice and support to teachers in both primary and secondary schools.

When trying to search for young people learning about disability I found it hard to find what I wanted. All the information I was receiving was on how to educated a special needs child.
It was a struggle to find anything on educating children about special needs.

Every child at some point in their lives will meet someone with special needs or a disability. I feel that it is important to prepare a child for these moments by giving them the best knowledge on disabilities.  There are many studies that show children are quick to judge a person due to there appearance. This can mean children can sometimes look at people who look different to them and be scared to approach them or uncertain about the person. Some children also resort to bullying other children who are different to them in order to make themselves feel better or more powerful.

Often children with disabilities can feel isolated when around others there own age because they are treated differently and are easily ignored. It can be difficult at times for them to have a voice which is why I want to create something that will help other children learn more about them.

I am interested in making my education in a print form.
Looking at what already exists the story books aimed at children are all made up stories with illustrations.

I feel that children would benefit from real stories showing real people so that they are able to understand that people like this are real and not just in stories.
